Photos with good contrast and a clear subject work best. Simple backgrounds, bold colours, and well-lit subjects give the most recognisable patterns. Busy, low-contrast images can work but may need a higher stitch count.

What are DMC thread colours? +

DMC is the world's most popular brand of embroidery thread. Our app matches your photo to over 300 real DMC colours, so you can buy exactly the threads you need from any craft shop or online.

What size should I make my pattern? +

It depends on the detail in your photo. 40×40 stitches is a good starting point for most images. For faces or detailed subjects, try 60×80 or higher. The app shows you the finished size in centimetres based on your Aida count.
